Back in late July the flow was already telling on WMT. Monday 7/20, a slow build starts on the 104p 8/21 — quiet at first, then $80,080 in premium stacking up by 7/22 as OI climbed from 0 to 921. Nobody was talking about Walmart being weak. The stock was still riding high off its May all-time high.

Then on 7/21, a much bigger tell: 101p 8/28 printed $443,520 in a single session, open interest jumping from 5 to 5,125 essentially overnight. That’s not someone rolling a hedge. That’s a fresh, sized bearish bet on a defensive consumer-staples name that most of the Street still had rated a buy.

Today WMT reported Q2 earnings — beat on both revenue and EPS — and the stock dropped 9% anyway. Comp sales missed, guidance raised less than hoped, and the market punished it. The whales who built those put positions in the back half of July weren’t reacting to bad news; they were ahead of it. That’s the entire point of oit whale watching.

TLN is that same setup. $380c 8/28 printed back on 8/10 for $59,850 — modest, early positioning. SPY Analysis: Top Test

These are tricky waters to navigate, and by tricky I mean not much you can do. When we’re testing the top there are a few options:

1. You bust tf through on a screamer

2. You sweep the high—aka you come just a little bit above the high, then drop

3. Pull up shy — you come just below the high then drop suddenly, which is usually a signal

In other words…literally anything can happen up here. So how do we play it? And why did Milt not play SPY today?

1. You ether wait for a bottom slope trend rejection

2. On a more condensed timeframe like the 15 minute you wait for a top rejection that coincides with the break in the more recent trend

The overarching lesson: you are better off waiting to play the downside than trying to jump on a moving train.

MARA

• Target: 14.41

• Stop: 9.89

MARA has repeatedly based near support and pushed back toward 14.41, where resistance begins.

A reclaim of 14.41 gives the move room. A loss of 9.89 breaks the support area.

NBIS

• Target: 233.91

• Stop: 156.16

The target is the next major monthly level at 233.91.

The stop is the previous gap level near 156.16, which is also where we entered.

CBRS

• Target: 255.05

• Stop: 162.18

• Key monthly levels: 232.26 and 243.99

CBRS already tested the monthly levels, reset, and is trying to come back.

If it clears the red monthly levels, 255.05 becomes the final target.

WMT

• Target zone: 101.10 to 100.00

• Secondary target: 98.82

• Stop: 114.00

WMT has clean gap targets on the left side of the chart that line up with the psychological 100 level and the whale strike.

A reclaim above 114.00 weakens the put setup.

The near gap set is the safer target zone.

The higher gap cluster near 14 to 15 is the squeeze or meme-run target.

✅ Trade Review: Today’s Twitter SPY Win

This trade was all about when the candle marked “this candle” tried to definitively smash through the monthly level and was met with a hard bounce (circled).

Once SPY was trending it was about trying to find the best target—I’m a broken record, but previous gap levels are really the best option here when there aren’t monthlies ahead.

When whales stack neighboring strikes like that, especially with decent premium, it usually means they are not guessing. They are building around a move they expect to happen in a specific timeframe.

Plus, found this oldie but goodies when I ran NOK through Cerebro::

I also like this one because the whale hops in for 700k—then something gets him a little squirrel and he drops 200k of it next day—but he is STILL holding. This means we got ourselves a real live human trying to figure out what to most likely, as opposed to a computer automated hedge.

I have a simple goal for this stage of flow evolution: I will know we have reached the ideal when the SEC comes knocking.

I do not want to cast a wide net into the ocean anymore. I want the signals to be so loud that the assumption is we must be insider trading.

Insider trading does not look like one large floor order. You will probably get hedged.

It also does not look like one tiny order sitting absurdly far outside the money that barely squeaks through the screener. Following that $8,000 order sitting 32% outside the money because someone called it a whale? Congratulations—now you and the whale are both doing a small-account challenge.

It is not anything heading directly into earnings, either. Earnings flow is filled with hedges, volatility trades, spreads and people positioning for both outcomes.

And it is definitely not mega-cap flow. Trading NVDA “whales” while the entire index is moving with it is not a whale-hunting skill set. That is usually index momentum wearing a whale costume.

So what does insider trading actually look like in flow?

We have selected two picks so far for 200% and 300% in two and three sessions respectively; Whale Hunters need to understand what they are hunting. You are not primarily looking for buyouts, M&A activity, partnerships, random headlines or some giant surprise announcement.

Most profitable whale hunting comes down to one of two things:

A. Price upgrades. More flow plays than people realize eventually explode because of analyst upgrades. Why? Because one upgrade brings attention, attention brings more upgrades, and more upgrades bring more institutional buying.

B. Nothing. That is right—the majority of true bangers have no meaningful public news at all. Institutions begin targeting certain tickers, and the whales appear to know where the money is heading or leacving before everyone else does. That is how you get runners like the ones we had today.

The important part was not one random call order. CBRS had multiple contracts targeting August, including different expiration dates and far-out-of-the-money strikes.

That creates what I call an Expiration Perimeter.

The whales were not making a vague bet that CBRS might eventually go higher. They were repeatedly targeting a specific near-term window with several contracts surrounding the move.

The two August contracts shown here were joined by two additional August contracts in the YEET Plus section. Multiple strikes, multiple expirations and one concentrated time frame—that is the signal.

The whales jumped our intended gap entry, but the message was still obvious: this ticker was preparing to run.

The insider move here was Index and Price Inversion.

When the index is sliding but whales continue loading calls in one individual ticker, that is a major hint. The broader market is weak, yet someone is aggressively buying upside exposure in a name refusing to act weak.

That is exactly the kind of separation the BAT Filter is designed to find.

How do we know it was not hedging?

The number of whale contracts, the spread-out expirations and the complete absence of put contracts to muddy the picture.

There was no balanced structure. There was no meaningful downside protection showing beside the calls. It was repeated, aggressive buying.

That is what we are hunting now—not every unusual order, not every oversized print and not every ticker with a whale emoji attached to it.

We want the ones where the flow is so coordinated, so persistent and so difficult to explain that it looks like somebody already knows what is coming.

I have a running joke with a friend of mine who works for WF Advisers—he calls me a few times a week and says “I need a sure thing!”. I now have a reputation at his work as a mysterious friend who delivers insane plays with methods they don’t understand—it’s a reputation I quite enjoy. I am now only putting in the flow section the ones I whisper to my buddy at Wells.

Stops do matter and here’s a window into the style we use for price action. I was taught by my mentor, which I personally find to be more effective than a percentage-based stop.

Trade: 745c

We took this trade for a couple reasons -- first you can see that there is upward momentum pushing the level -- you can see in yellow on the third hourly touch overnight the trend has established itself.

2 -- SPY Magic is also pumping out calls (this is our proprietary 90% accurate SPY Whale Filter) with almost no brakes -- a strong signal we’re bouncing for sure, especially given Friday’s movement.

So where do we stop? It’s hard in volatility, but ultimately I look for a) the worst case scenario and b) what signals that scenario is in action to determine where to stop, which is almost always B.

The worst case scenario would be the gap fill to the downside that was left open here overnight -- lately they’ve been leaving bearish gaps open for weeks rather than hours or days, but we note it as a real possibility if havoc is coming.

Our signal that that would be coming, then, would be the dual level on both SPY and ES around 7429 breaking…

Dual Level to Watch ~ 7429 ES // 740.5 SPY

A -- ES: You can see on the pump they just missed the hourly backtest on ES, meaning there is a decent percentage chance at some point they will check it off -- and they do just that.

B -- This also represents a monthly level on SPY, meaning that it is now doubly important.

So, when determining our stop what we’re looking for is the dual ES/SPY level to fail -- that would signal the upside is broken, at least for now. Anything outside of that -- say an hourly bounce here -- would mean the level of importance held through what was, essentially, a mechanical backtest that has timing which was seemingly random to you or I but always a real possibility.

Later in the session they did just that. Does that mean the trade immediately becomes a winner? Not necessarily. Does it mean we understood where our stops are and reacted accordingly to give us a better exit than a panic on a dip below the level? Yes.

One gap closed, one did not.

The gap from the May 7th high closed overnight — price came back up and filled it cleanly. But the gap below at 733.07 to 731.58 is still sitting there untouched. That is the magnet. Until that fills the tape has unfinished business underneath.

Going into the close yesterday and starting today, there are still a lot of puts open to the downside — particularly the 735p cluster. We started lower this morning which was the setup those prints were calling for. The open gap below is the thesis. 733.07 is the first target on any continuation lower. If that fills and holds, the bounce is the play.

🗺️ SPY Structure: We Now Sit Between Two Gaps

If you were only looking at one chart today, the hourly is the one.

SPY got taken out to the woodshed this morning; gapping into the open, selling hard from ~740 down to 731.83 (today’s low), and then bouncing. The bounce looked impressive on the 15m. It was not impressive enough.

Why? Because we’ve got two open gaps working as magnetic field boundaries:

🔼 Gap to close: 737.70 -- this is the ceiling. That’s the gap left above from the move down. Price needs to clear this before any bullish thesis gains traction.

🔽 Gap to close: 733.07 / 731.58 -- this is the floor that started the whole conversation. We tagged 731.83 today, came close, and bounced, but we never officially closed that lower gap zone.

So right now SPY is a compressed spring sitting between two magnets. Neither gap has been formally closed. The path of least resistance into tomorrow will likely be determined by which one gets touched first.

🧾 SPY Magic / Trade Review

Let’s be real about what happened today because this is exactly what SPY Magic is for.

The first trade was a straightforward short. Price was extended, flow was printing puts premarket, and the setup was clean going into open.

The second trade was also a short, but this time we had a target: the lower gap fill at 733.07. That’s SPY Magic working. The gap was marked, the thesis was clear, and price kissed 731.83; which is 20 cents from completing the full close.

But here’s the part worth dwelling on: even as we were sitting at 732-range lows, the 735 calls were getting hit on the ask side. Repeatedly. Same strike, same expiry (5/13), same side -- whales were accumulating 1DTE calls into what looked like a waterfall.

That’s not random. That’s someone with a view that this was a flush worth buying. And they were right -- for the bounce.

The hint: When you see aggressive ask-side call accumulation at the lows during what looks like a panic flush, that’s not the time to add shorts. That’s the time to take some off the table and reassess. The whales doing the 735c spam at 08:19 were not wrong about the direction of the next 2 hours.

These were easy reads once you knew what to look for.

Each time SPY had a small dip this morning, all we had to do was wait for the wicking on the hourly to show where a potential bottom was, and look to SPY Magic to confirm direction and give us targets.

A wedge rises. We’ve seen rising wedges break in the opposite direction in this market, to be sure, but we also want to look for signs of strength or weakness in the price action as it rises. Given the ES overnight action, if we get a double top at the high that comes down it makes logical sense to push for that gap fill down to the 730 area.
